Fishin’ Maggie
What’s Happening on Maggie
This week is a very short article. Weather has impacted all forms of water activities for the last couple of weeks, and I’m sure this coming week will be no different. Seabreeze has Friday’s wind at 66 knots. Anomaly or prediction? Nathan is still around so no reef trips this coming week either.
A Fishing rod and reel was found on the West Point Road, which obviously fell out of a vehicle. If anyone lost one and can identify it, please come and claim it.
Onshore Fishing
More Barra are still getting caught at West Point and Horseshoe Bay. The guy at West Point didn’t even know he had a Barra on. The big predator was swimming around with his bait in its mouth until it eventually launched out of the water, which is when he realised that it had line in its mouth. It is pretty unusual not to know there is a Barra on your line.
I saw an impressive pile of fresh Barra scales at the tap at Horseshoe Bay on Saturday, near the boat ramp. The size of the scales means it would probably be about 70 cm which is a nice eating Barra. Matt landed another one also next to the boat ramp. The water is very murky all around the island, but the Barra are obviously still here.
Sunday was a day of decadence with a superb breakfast at Gilligan’s, as always and dinner and the Marlin bar. I didn’t even get to have a fish until Monday morning. Sometimes you just have to enjoy the company of friends without a rod in hand.
Monday morning I got two Jacks in Gustav Creek, one each side of the bridge. One just legal and one smaller. Both were returned to fight again.
Next week
Until next time gone Fishin’…. be back at dark-thirty
